The Spirit of Athaliah and Pride

This message is about power. It seems many love titles in this day and age. There is a feeling one gets when being honored by men.  A title can make one feel important or fill a void from childhood. Some people have a certain longing to be recognized, patted on the back and noticed. Yeshua said, “They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the marketplaces, and being called Rabbi by men” (Matthew 23:6-7 NASB).

Some of the men were hypocrites, but many of the Sadducee’s and Pharisees were very obedient and righteous.

Athaliah was the daughter of wicked Ahab and his wife, Jezebel.

Just when you think this potion for success couldn’t get any uglier guess who she marries? Athaliah married King Jehoram of Judah. He was the one who murdered all his brothers with a sword because they were loyal to Adonai.  He was so wicked and bent on evil, look what the Father does …“After all this, the LORD afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels. And it came to pass, that in the process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases” (2nd Chronicles 21:18-19 KJV).

Now that I have your attention, we will look at this woman and a spirit as strong as Jezebel who loved the seat of royalty, and the accolades of men.

There is a big difference in being proud of our accomplishments and being prideful. Pride is puffed up. It’s when we say, “our way is best,” or we are the only ones doing it right. Pride puts others down. Pride sneaks in and it can make us think we are holier than the next person. It can creep into leadership and cause sickness to infiltrate us. Pride says we drive better, cook better, look better, are smarter than our colleagues and have more wisdom with our spending, more discernment, talent, gifting, prophetic knowledge, and the list goes on.

Jesus/ Yeshua said wash someone’s feet, and be a servant–to not think too highly of ourselves. He said, let another person compliment you and to not boast about our accomplishments.  I am paraphrasing here, but He also said when we tell everybody the good we have done, we have our reward.

Athaliah had a sickness, many of us do, and we don’t even realize it. Giving HaShem the Glory for everything is a must.

Athaliah sat upon the throne of David, and she reigned six years. How did she do it? She murdered all her grandchildren, that’s how. It sounds horrific until we start looking at the sins of our own nation and people. Are we spiritually murdering our seeds seed due to not living in obedience?

“Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah. But Jehoshabeath the king’s daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king’s sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from ATHALIAH so that she would not put him to death. He was hidden with them in the house of God six years while Athaliah reigned over the land” (2nd Chronicles 22:10-12 NASB).

Six years.

I believe our Father has been hiding some men and women who are being taught the old paths. These will be Followers of the Way and not followers of men with titles.

Did you notice Athaliah destroyed everyone who could take her place? I have seen this jealousy in His Body, where many have destroyed with their tongues other people’s character to keep the eyes of the people on them. Jealousy is in The Body of Yeshua and in His people when it shouldn’t be. Paul saw this nasty jealousy and said, “Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter,” or “I follow only Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:12-13 NLT).

This woman Athaliah wanted all eyes upon her, and she wanted the glory so severely she was willing to murder her own flesh and blood. Is our brother or sister of another title our own flesh and blood?  We are divided by the doctrines of men, both in the Messianic and Christianity. Are we willing to murder with our tongues to be right in our own eyes? Do we want fame, titles, wealth and authority?

I long for the day when We all get on the same page and eventually become a strong army– coming together as one. A people who have a heart to esteem others greater than themselves. A people who have servants hearts.

The priest hides one of Athaliah’s grandchildren, and he is raised in the House of the Father and trained at a very early age to obey the Father’s Commandments. In time, he is placed on the throne and she is murdered for her wickedness. But what type of person would go to such links to get a title? A position? She wanted the title more than her own seed! The Tribe of Judah! I pray mercy on what I see today happening all over this land.

We throw people away. We often don’t go to our brothers and sisters and talk things through. Apologize or try and make things right. Our flesh rises up in offense or wants our own way. Our necks stretch to the heavens and won’t bend.

“When Athaliah heard the noise made by the guards and the people, she went to the people at the temple of the Lord. She looked and there was the king, standing by the pillar, as the custom was. The officers and the trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her robes and called out, “Treason! Treason!”

This spirit always calls treason. Whatever it tries to place on the righteous is what it truly has in its heart, and its a strong spirit to battle.

Jehoiada, the priest, ordered the commanders of units of a hundred, who were in charge of the troops: “Bring her out between the ranks and put to the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the temple of the Lord.” So they seized her as she reached the place where the horses enter the palace grounds, and there she was put to death.

Jehoiada then made a covenant between the Lord and the king and people that they would be the Lord’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. All the people of the land went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols to pieces and killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars” (2nd Kings 11:13-18 NIV).

Oh, that we would tear it down and get back to His Feast and His ways.

Now I told you all that to tell you this. The spirit of Jezebel is strong but so is the spirit of Athaliah. The only way to stop this spirit was for the priest to join together and pray and teach the younger generation in fear. When there is corruption in the headship of an assembly or a government seat, it has a trickle down effect. I have watched this over and over again. Corruption in authority means corruption in the body and in the people. They call people brave who are not heroic. They call evil good and good evil.

Athaliah kills the royal seed. This seed was of the lineage of the Messiah. These were kingdom inheritors and the seed that was meant to rule. That is what this spirit does, and it is working in this day. It loves to slay the mighty leaders, the apostles, the office of the prophet and the prophetic voices, and those who exalt Yeshua. This spirit comes with false motives.

Idol worship and jealousy is a stench in our Father’s nostrils. Men have made it about them, and yes, we have made it a show.  Mistakenly, many times people have placed their faith in a man and put him on a pedestal, but no man will get HIS GLORY. No man or woman can.

“On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died” (Acts 12:21-23 NIV).

We don’t hear this verse or the one about the Father striking a man until his bowels fell out preached much.

May we all get back to the older path and the way of truth and obedience to His Torah.

“And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. “He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:5-8 NASB).
