Hypnosis and yoga are a couple of mystical practices which have basically gone mainstream in America today. Just because a spiritual practice goes mainstream, however, doesn’t mean that it is safe and beneficial. Many spiritual teachings and practices are dangerous to the soul. This calls for daily discernment and constant vigilance on the part of every Christian. Altered states of consciousness and other mystical practices open doors in the spiritual realm. Once a door is opened, a person becomes vulnerable to any spirits which come through that door. For example, a seance opens a door. So do animal sacrifices….and all voodoo rituals as well. Astrology is another spiritual exercise which opens a door. Even something seemingly as innocent as placing a Native American „dreamcatcher“ above your bed opens a door in the spiritual realm. A number of years ago a mother heard me talk about dreamcatchers. She told me that her daughter had been having nightmares every night for years. She immediately removed the dreamcatcher from her daughter’s bed. The first night the dreamcatcher came down, the nightmares stopped and never came back. Close the spiritual door and you close off access to unwanted spirits. Hypnosis is basic to the Eastern religions. Prominent hypnotists have estimated that there are probably over 100 different stages of hypnotic trance. Christians should never allow themselves to be put in a trance….regardless of who is leading you into that mental state of relaxation. No matter what obstacles we face, God will help us if we rely upon Him rather than magical or mystical experiences. It is very dangerous to open hidden spiritual doors through hypnosis. These doors are „hidden“ because they are invisible to the human eye. You also don’t see the spirits that come through these doors. Likewise, you don’t see the Holy Spirit or Jesus when you trust Christ for salvation. Nevertheless, God enters your heart through a door in the spiritual realm the moment you are converted.
One of the most frequent questions I have received since coming out of the New Age movement is how can we understand crystals? In this video, we look at one scientific argument and two Biblical arguments as to why crystals should be avoided in healing and therapy.
by Betty Miller with Janice Fritch
“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.” Deuteronomy 11:26-28
Have you ever wondered how it is that some Christians can seem to have more than their fair share of problems in life? We often hear prayer requests describing one problem after another attacking Christians left and right. They express how they feel like God has forsaken them and they feel like they are cursed. Could they be right? In order for us to determine whether we have stepped out of the will of God, we need to examine our lives to see if there is any place that we have been mislead from God’s ways.
Mohli by mať pravdu? Aby sme mohli určiť, či sme vykročili z Božej vôle, musíme preskúmať svoj život a zistiť, či sme sa niekde nezlomili z Božích ciest.
One of the biggest ways we can be cursed is by acknowledging or worshiping false gods which include cults or false religions and new age religion which takes us to the occult. “Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.” Isaiah 47:11-14 How can we escape curses and be set free from the consequences that come from being involved with any of these things? First, we must be honest with God and admit our sin (even if we were ignorant at the time); next, we must repent and renounce all ties with the past in those areas which the Lord says are an abomination to Him. Some may say this sounds legalistic, but to follow and love God means that as soon as we learn of something that we are involved in that is an abomination to God, we must remove it from our life immediately (the same is true of sin). If we love the Lord God and do not wish to have anything in our lives that could hinder or restrict our spiritual walk, we will be willing to put away anything that would keep us from walking in the fullness of God’s blessings and His plan for our lives.
By Marcia Montenegro| Harry Potter is a character in a series of books written by J. K. Rowling about a young boy who discovers he is really a wizard, in other words, a sorcerer.
Four books have come out in the Harry Potter series, with 3.8 million copies of the fourth book being released in the U.S. on July 8, 2000. Worldwide, 35 million copies of the first three books are in print, with about half of total sales in the U.S. (“USA Today,” 6-22-00, p. D-1). The first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was released in England as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The “Philosopher’s Stone” is part of the lore of alchemy and medieval sorcery, and was supposedly a stone which could be used to turn base metal to gold, and was the Holy Grail of sorcery (Bill Whitcomb, The Magician’s Companion, St. Paul: Llewellyn, 1994, pp. 351, 485, 527). Rowling has been hailed as a clever, imaginative writer whose books have enticed children into reading again. This is no doubt true. However clever or imaginative the stories are, they do center on a character who is learning the arts of sorcery and witchcraft. One defense, or minimization of the sorcery in the Harry Potter books, is that the stories are just a normal part of a child’s fantasy world. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis are often brought up as examples. But are Tolkien and Lewis the standard for discernment? Even so, Lewis did not endorse the occult. And if Tolkien did, does that make it okay? (When I was an astrologer, my witch clients and friends loved Tolkien, by the way). Yes, Lewis and Tolkien wrote fantasy novels that included magical elements, but the question for Christians should be, is the fantasy (in any story) centered on the occult, and what does God say about the occult?
Pokrytec, vyhoď najprv brvno zo svojho oka! Potom budeš vidieť a budeš môcť vybrať smietku z oka svojho brata. Nedávajte, čo je sväté, psom a nehádžte svoje perly pred svine, aby ich nohami nepošliapali, neobrátili sa proti vám a neroztrhali vás. Proste a dostanete! Hľadajte a nájdete! Klopte a otvoria vám! Lebo každý, kto prosí, dostane, a kto hľadá, nájde, a kto klope, tomu otvoria. (Mt 7, 1-8)
